Addendum to the Syllabus

Addendum to the Syllabus
10th Grade English
Prisms of Reality
Mrs. Koza
What is an addendum?
An addendum is a document that adds information to another document. In this case, this document is adding to the syllabus you have already received. As we move forward into the thick of things, I decided that it would be best to have a few more policies and procedures in writing. This way, we are all on the same page.

Online Presence
Contact me at mrskozaenglish@gmail.com at any time with questions, comments, suggestions, or anything you want to talk to me about. Use it for questions about homework , papers or any other assignment.
I have created a webpage for our class. It is mrskozaenglish.blogspot.com. I will post homework, journal entries, announcements, and other information that is relevant to the class. If you are absent, check this page for the journal that you missed, and any other work that was assigned the day you were out.

Exemplary Work
I want to recognize you for work well done! Throughout the year, I will approach those of you who have shown great effort and hard work in your writing, and ask you if I may post your work to the course webpage. This will help us learn from each other, and appreciate the fruits of our labor.

Classroom Conduct – Some Essential Questions
Better than making up a list of rules, I believe that these essential questions can guide us to conduct ourselves with respect towards ourselves and others.
    1. How do I demonstrate self-reliance?
    2. How do I demonstrate respect?
    3. How do I demonstrate self-awareness?
    4. How do I demonstrate empathy?
I expect everyone to think carefully about these questions each day in class, and hope that you carry these lessons with you into your daily lives. Remember: you are what you do!

Bathroom Policy
You may not leave the room under the following conditions:
    1. It is the first or last 10 minutes of class.
    2. The teacher is talking or giving directions.
    3. We are having a class discussion.
    4. You have abused the bathroom privilege by leaving too often or for too long.
    5. You currently have a 70 average or less.
    6. It is the period before or after lunch.
Headings
Written work that is turned into me should always contain your name, the date, the section you are in, my name, and the title of the assignment. You may format your heading in either of the following ways:

Name (First and Last) Date
Section # Teacher Name
Assignment

Name (First and Last)
Date
Section #
Teacher Name
Assignment

If you do not know your section number, ask and I will tell you.

Class Participation Policy
Each day you will start out with 5 points towards your participation. By arriving on time, staying on task, and adhering to the principles of classroom conduct as outlined by the four essential questions we discussed in class, you will receive all five of your points. Here are some ways you can lose points throughout the period:

    1. Arriving late to class.
    2. Not being in your seat by the time the bell rings with your journal out and ready to go.
    3. Talking during Journal.
    4. Holding side conversations during class discussion.
    5. Doing work for another class.

I know that all of you are capable of behaving appropriately in class. I do not intend to punish you, but I will hold you accountable for your actions.
